Are Reprise shows concerts with actors holding scripts?
Our first few shows were concerts where actors held their scripts. That changed in 1997 when Lucie Arnaz challenged the rest of her WONDERFUL TOWN cast to go script-free. Since then, our actors have not held scripts. While our orchestra is still on stage, our productions have grown in size and production value since our founding.
What kinds of shows does Reprise produce?
Historically, Reprise has been dedicated to producing theatrical revivals of rarely seen musicals from the canon of great American Musicals. Although we continue that tradition, we are expanding our interests and commitments.
Reprise is becoming a center for re-envisioning the musicals of the past, uncovering hidden themes and ideas and re-inventing them to showcase the vitality, excitement and delight they still offer modern audiences.
Additionally, we are beginning to apply this vision to non-musical theater, as well. And in the not too distant future, we will develop and present the great works of tomorrow as we work with some of the finest talents the stage has to offer in bringing their wonderful work to our audience.
Do you pronounce it ruh-preez or re-prize?
While both are correct, they have different definitions. When referring to repetition of music or a dance, ruh-preez is the preferred pronunciation and is how you say our name.
